Gum Disease Treatment in Lincroft, New Jersey

Improve Your Oral Health With Our Gum Disease Treatments

The team at DeFabio Dental Design believes that your jaw and gum health are very important to your overall health and well-being. Periodontal (or gum disease) disease is a condition that affects the bone and soft tissue that support and hold your teeth in place.

Gum disease develops gradually and left untreated can result in tooth loss. It has been shown to have a connection with major health complications such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, high blood pressure, and low birth weight.

While cosmetic treatments such as porcelain veneers can help the appearance of your teeth, periodontal disease is a serious condition that won’t go away if you ignore it and requires professional care. The bacteria in your mouth, together with food particles and your saliva, continually form a colorless and sticky plaque on your teeth.

Poor oral health such as brushing and flossing techniques that do not remove this plaque layer can allow it to harden into calculus or “tartar”. This tartar, when left unchecked leads to gum disease. If you believe you are suffering with gum disease contact us to schedule a consultation and we can diagnose and develop the right treatment plan or you.

Understanding Periodontal Disease and Treatment Options

Dr. Edward DeFabio DDS
Dr. Edward DeFabio, DDS

To check if you have periodontal disease, we will first begin by using a gentle probe to measure the pocket of gum tissue around your teeth. We may also take x-rays to check bone levels around your teeth. Deep pockets are an indicator of periodontal disease. If there are any deep pockets, your toothbrush at home cannot reach inside to clean out the plaque and debris. In this case, you will need to have a procedure referred to as periodontal scaling. This is a powerful treatment for gum disease.

Some of the signs and symptoms of periodontal gum disease to watch out for include:

-Bad breath

-Loose teeth

-Pus coming from teeth and gums

-Swollen or red gums

-Painful chewing

-Sensitive teeth

Periodontal scaling is more extensive as compared to a routine cleaning because it removes the tartar and plaque that are stuck below your gums. Our periodontal gum treatment specialists can perform this deep cleaning of your gums and teeth to assist in controlling bacteria responsible for causing gum disease.

Sometimes anesthesia is used to make the gum disease treatment procedure more comfortable for you. We are equipped with state-of-the-art tools for hand instrumentation. Once the tartar is removed, we will perform root planing to smooth out the root surfaces and promote your gum tissues to reattach and strengthen the support around your tooth.

This treatment is usually administered over several appointments, which will vary depending on the extent and severity of your disease. Improved daily home care is essential to successful treatment outcomes. We review proper brushing and flossing techniques and encourage all of our periodontal patients to establish a new, healthy routine.

Perio-Protect is a relatively new method to treat gum disease. It is a great adjunct to treatment and may also provide an alternative to surgery. Perio-Protect uses custom-molded trays along with a prescription gel. This system allows the medicine to access deep below the gum line to kill the bacteria that traditional oral care techniques cannot reach. Worn for just minutes a day, this treatment is easy and can prevent and control advanced gum disease.

After undergoing periodontal treatment, you will find that your gums are healthier and feel better. By which is something that will assist in extending the health of your teeth. The improvement process will be contingent on how good the cleaning process turns out and the severity of your gum disease. You will also find that your gums are not as swollen and do not bleed as often after periodontal treatment. Another wonderful benefit is that your breath will be fresher because your mouth will be healthier.

At DeFabio Dental Design, the health and safety of our staff and patients are of utmost importance. We treat people, not just teeth. We know the crucial role that your oral health has on your well-being. Our Periodontal Gum Treatment uses conservative anti-infective therapy, beginning with our comprehensive, yet gentle cleaning to treat gum disease. We collaborate with you to come up with a treatment regimen that promotes dental health and satisfies your individual needs. So if you notice any symptoms of gum disease, contact us today to schedule your first appointment.

"Dr. Fabio's office is ALWAYS on time - Love this because some doctors make you wait forever - I guess some feel our time is not valuable. I have been going to Dr. Defabio for probably 30 years. My family and I would not go to anyone else.
